It's about seeing the wonder of the world. It's about experiencing life and sharing that experience...
This gallery provides links to my journals and to the photos that jumped into my camera as I wandered in different places. My most recent trip is at the top of the gallery.
2005-06: Red-clad feet on a purple bike
Wandering on 2 wheels in Downeast Maine, this trip represents my return to touring after too long of an absence (caused by last year's unfortunate
crash). Six days gave me time for a pair of loops in coastal Maine, stretching from Mt. Desert Island in the west to Jonesport in the east.

2004-10: An experience on two feet instead of two (bicycle) wheels
I had planned to ride in Hawaii, but my (unplanned)
crash scuttled my cycling plans for the year. The Big Island was still in my head, so I switched my mode of transportation. This was a driving, hiking, and relaxing trip. And of course, the Big Island is always a wonderful travel destination.

2004-05: What do you mean I can't ride my bike?
This is the story of my recovery from my stellar bicycle crash on May 20, 2004, with the target of returning to touring as soon as possible. It's not a tour, but it is about bicycling!

2004-02: Three seasons in three days
Escaping from the northeast in the heart of winter is always a welcome break for me. I expected my three days in Sedona, Arizona to have a semblance of warmth, maybe a little cool, but dry. Instead, I had a day of sunshine and relative warmth, a day of rain, and a day of snow. Interesting hiking in a beautiful place.

2003-09: Ireland at lastA place I'd been thinking of visiting for a long time... I chose to wander in northern sections of Ireland and Northern Ireland, crossing back and forth across the border over the first several days of my trip, and then staying in the north. I started riding in Belcoo, and ended just north of Belfast. A quick visit of Dublin finished my tour before I flew home again.

2003-05: Hawaii Dreaming
Ever since my first visit to the Big Island, I've felt a pull, a desire to visit again. And again. And...
My first experience biking in Hawaii was on a supported tour (a couple of years prior to this one). This trip was a repeat journey from a roads standpoint, but this time I was on my own, in my usual solo, self-supported style. What a wonderful place to ride, and what a wonderful place to be let loose with a camera. And you know what? I'm going to need to return again!

2002-09: Exploring a small piece of the Maine coast (and New Hampshire too!)
Home from my cross-country adventure, I toyed with the idea of doing another short tour, taking the train to Portland and riding back. My head wasn't ready to wander off again so soon. Instead I took a series of day trips to explore the coast not too far from home.

2002-06: Boston to Oregon, a cross-country celebration
Riding across the United States has been a dream of mine for a while. Why?
People keep asking me why I want to do this trip. It's really a combination of things to me: a chance to explore our country at a pace that lets me really see things, a chance to meet and interact with people who live in the areas I'll be passing through, a chance to meet other cyclists, a chance to see parts of the country that I've only dreamed of so far, and a sense of accomplishment that comes from a ride of this sort.
Please join me in my dream ride from east to west.

2001 & 2002: Red rocks and fabulous formations
Yes, you're absolutely right - I ride on roads, and I don't ride a mountain bike. But - the scenery drew me to the mountain biking mecca of Moab, accompanied by my road bike. Photos are somewhat limited since this trip was before I entered the digital camera world, but there are a sampling of photos in my journal.

1999: Washington and Oregon Coasts
This trip was intended to be a 4-week bicycle tour, but cold rainy weather forced a bit of a change. I rode a loop from Spokane into Idaho, and back to Spokane. That was followed by several days of driving across Washington, visiting the Coulee Dam and Mount Rainier, and then switching back to my preferred two-wheeled form of transportation for a straight shot down the coast from Bellingham, WA to Crescent City, CA.
