Thoughts on traveling, by bicycle, with camera
Panniers, a trailer, both?
For the touring cyclist... how much did you say you need with you? And where are you going to put it? At some point in time, everyone who heads out on a self-supported bike tour faces the question of whether to use panniers or a trailer - or both. And the same question is one that I've heard from a lot of folks planning to start touring. Actually, it tends to be a set of questions - what do you use? what do you recommend? why?
I've toured with panniers, and I've toured with a trailer, and I imagine I'll continue to choose based on the trip I'm about to take. I don't pretend to have all of the answers (does anyone?), but I'll attempt to present some reasons for each choice.

Self-contained bicycle touring, a packing list... When I first started touring, a list of the things that jumped into my panniers was a part of every journal. The person who really needed the list was me, not the people who were looking over my shoulder. And yet, I knew there were people just starting in the wonderful world of cycle touring who probably had the same questions (about gear) as I did when I was starting to travel on two (self-propelled) wheels.
This list is a good sanity check for me as I get ready to wander, and maybe it will help someone who is new to this form of travel.

Thoughts on (bicycle) touring with a digital camera... Touring and cameras go hand in hand for me. I enjoy traveling by bike and I enjoy taking photos in an attempt to capture some of the things that I see from my bike. This article was initially written back in 2003, but I have attempted to keep it up-to-date over the years.
It does not focus on specific cameras. Instead, it attempts to help you organize your thoughts and point you to information that may help as you make your own decision about what camera might meet your needs.
